If your dog has a significant amount of matting in their coat then a fee will apply (starting from $15). This is because the process of removing mats damages my clipper blades, making them blunt much faster and requiring professional sharpening. The fee also reflects the possibility that mat removal may add extra time to the grooming process, though this isn’t always the case.
If the dematting is going to take a significant amount of additional time, it may not be possible to complete the full groom within the scheduled appointment. In these cases, I may need to either reschedule, or split the grooming over two sessions.
If you think your dog might be matted, please mention this when booking. You won’t automatically be charged a matted coat fee just for letting me know—it simply helps me prepare.
Please don’t worry about being judged if your dog has matting! I understand that life happens, and even the most well-cared for pets can experience matting. It’s always better to take care of it now rather than delaying, as matting only gets worse over time. My priority is keeping your dog as comfortable and happy as possible.
My goal is to make grooming a positive and successful experience for every dog. However, sometimes even the happiest pets can have a tough day. When a dog becomes overly stressed or fearful, their behaviour can become unpredictable or unsafe. For everyone's safety - especially when working with sharp grooming tools - I will never force a procedure that I feel is unsafe.
In these cases, please know that I've still dedicated my time and expertise to caring for your dog and working towards success in a safe manner. Therefore, in most cases the full grooming price will apply even if a specific part of the process cannot be completed. I'll always let you know what happened and we can chat about strategies for for getting that task done successfully in the future.
If you have concerns about how your dog will react to certain grooming tasks, please don't hesitate to communicate this to me ahead of time. We can discuss strategies to mitigate tricky behaviour and give your dog the best chance of a positive experience.
